How do you know when a domain is about to expire?

We query RDAP — the registry protocol that replaced WHOIS — every hour for every domain you track, so we're working from current registry data, not a stale cache.

How is this different from an uptime/cert monitor, or just setting a reminder?

A reminder is a dumb timer — it doesn't know if anything actually changed. We poll RDAP hourly and diff the response, so you get notified the moment your registrar, registrant, or nameserver record changes, not just when expiry approaches. This is deliberately scoped to domain ownership, not site health — we're not trying to replace Uptime Kuma or your cert monitor, we cover the gap they don't: who owns the domain, not whether it's responding.

How do you handle privacy-protected (WHOIS-redacted) domains?

Honestly: we often can't see the underlying registrant contact at all — WHOIS/RDAP privacy services redact it, same as everyone else querying the registry — which means we can't reliably detect a change in that field either, since there's nothing exposed to diff against. So we don't build alerting around a contact we can't verify or monitor. Instead you add unlimited alert addresses of your own, on every plan including free, so notifications go to people you actually control rather than a redacted or possibly-dead mailbox.

Where can alerts be sent?

Email, Slack (webhook or OAuth), SMS via Twilio, and signed HTTPS webhooks for anything custom. Wire alerts straight into your own systems on any plan.

Can I track competitor or partner domains?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Anything with public RDAP data works — useful for keeping an eye on a competitor name you'd like first refusal on, or a partner domain you depend on.
